Funeral services for Cora Lillian Woods, age 87, of Milaca will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca on Thursday, September 23, 2010 and also one hour prior to services. Providing music for the service will be Cheryl Bailey and Sophie Bauer. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. Casketbearers will be Robert Meyer, Warren Woods, Jeremy Woods, Brett Hardecopf, Todd Ulwelling, and Rob Wilkie. Honorary Casketbearers will be Robin Meyer, Heather Hardecopf, Mara Ulwelling, Jackie Wilkie, and Kristi Lenzen.
Cora Lillian Woods was born December 31, 1922 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Hans and Marit (Hovrud) Moe. She graduated from high school in Groton, South Dakota. She attended the Northern State Teacher’s College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She taught country school near her home for two years until the school closed. She worked in Aberdeen for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She was united in marriage to Sherby Woods on November 23, 1945 at the Scandinavian Lutheran Church in Brown County, near Aberdeen. After marriage, she continued to work part-time for Northwestern Bell in Milaca. She then worked full-time as a Service Representative for Northwestern Bell, until Gopher State took over. She was also employed at Gorecki and the Milaca Elim Home.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Milaca where she helped with quilting and belonged to the Priscilla Circle. She was a lifetime member of the Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178, and served as Chaplain. She was a member of the Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794, and served as Chaplain. She helped with the blood mobile and volunteered many hours at the American Legion. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her friends. She also enjoyed painting pictures, painting on china, and making china dolls.
Cora died Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Milaca Elim Home.
Cora is survived by one daughter, Ramona (Roger) Meyer of New Ulm, MN; two sons, Ron (Colleen O’Neil) Woods of Cold Spring, MN and Roy (Mary) Woods of Wyoming, MN; grandchildren, Robin (Greg) Roach, Robert Meyer, Heather (Brett) Hardecopf, Warren (Trisha) Woods, Mara (Todd) Ulwelling, Jeremy Woods and special friend, Kristi Lenzen, and Jackie (Rob) Wilkie; great grandchildren, Ethan Roach, Jade Hardecopf, Emmalee Woods, Megan Woods, Logan Woods, Mitchell Ulwelling, Mackenzie Ulwelling, and Cora Hardecopf; special Godchildren, Dede Ballentine and Ginger Jones; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Percy) Grote of Roebuck, SC; sister-in-law, Bernice Moe of Spring Green, WI; also by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherby Woods, who passed away January 23, 2007; brothers, Carl Moe, Sigurd Moe, and Melvin Moe; sisters, Mabel Moe, Annie Pine, and Helen VonWald; sister-in-law, Myrtle Moe; brothers-n-law, Paul Pine and Alvin VonWald; niece, Peggy Locken.
