Dorothy Minerva Johnson

Funeral services for Dorothy M. Johnson, age 91, of Milaca, will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Stephen Blenkush officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Casketbearers will include Eric Nelson, Sara Nelson, Erin Shankle, Michelle Coventry, Sheryl Johnson and Nathan Johnson. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Dorothy Minerva Johnson was born the last of seven children in Braham, MN on September 2, 1919 to John and Emma (Peterson) Dahl. She was baptized and confirmed at Braham Lutheran Church. She graduated from Braham High School in 1936. She then moved to Minneapolis where she did housekeeping and worked at Butler Brothers. She was first married to Eldon Bertelson in 1942. Sadly, Eldon died during World War II in service of his country. Dorothy married Alden Johnson in 1947, a marriage that lasted 62 years. Dorothy worked for many years at East Central Electric Co. and at the Mille Lacs County Extension Office until her retirement. Dorothy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and with the Zion Lutheran Swedish Singers. She enjoyed gardening and growing Sweet Peas and sewing for family members and people all around the area. Alden preceded her in death on January 9, 2010. Dorothy died on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Milaca Elim Home. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Garry) Nelson of Ironton, MN; one daughter-in-law, Sheryl Johnson of Saginaw, MN; four grandchildren, Eric (Sara) Nelson of Zimmerman, MN, Erin (Kyle) Shankle and Michelle (James) Coventry both of Pine River, MN and Nathan Johnson of Saginaw, MN; also by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Eldon Bertelson and Alden Johnson; son, Gregory K. Johnson; sisters, Frances, Edith and Florence and brothers, Spencer, Russell and Ames.
