Funeral services for Roy Wedell, age 94, of Milaca, will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 11 AM at Milaca United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Woo Jae Im officiating. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 PM on Wednesday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca with military honors provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Hansen-Hayes VFW Post #10794. Casketbearers will include Darwin Lofgren, Ray Swenson, Kevin Wedell, Gary Judd, Michael Judd and Chad Wedell.
Roy Wedell was born March 12, 1916 to Andrew and Hilma (Peterson) Wedell in Milaca Township. Roy loved to farm, naming his Holstein cows, prior to farming he joined the Army in WW II. In 1939 he met and fell in love with Hazel. They were married in a Double Ring Ceremony with Hazel’s sister on Augsut 24, 1941. Sadly Hazel passed away in 2003. They farmed in Milaca Township for 38 years. Roy and Hazel adopted a son, Dale and also raised their niece, Lois as their own. Roy died on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Milaca Elim Home.
Roy loved to fish, watch wrestling, go to Farmer Union Meetings and the State Fair machinery hill. He found joy in harvesting his crops in the fall. Later in life he like to go bowling with friends and joined a bowling team. Roy was a member of the Milaca United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed going camping with family, and sitting around a campfire, who could ask for more.
He is survived by his children, Dale (RoxAnne) Wedell of Zimmerman and Lois (Jack) Fritz of Andover; grandchildren Casey Fritz, Angela Lenz, Amy (Alen) Streff and Ashley (Ben) Miller; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Madelynn, Zack, Abi, Cadee, Hunter and Heather; also by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Hilma (Peterson) Wedell; wife, Hazel and siblings, Mertle Latteral, Esther Olson, Albert, Clarence and Doris Judd.
