Funeral services for Edward J. Olson, age 91, of Milaca, will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Stephen Blenkush officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery. Music will be provided by Cheryl Bailey and Sophie Bauer. Casketbearers will be Mike Olson, Robert Anderson, Jim Anderson, Mike Rotz, Gary Hatch, and Ken Rosales.
Edward J. Olson was born March 20, 1919 in Milaca Township. He attended Hillcrest Elementary School through the eighth grade. Ed married Marian (Sandeen) December 21, 1938. Living at Medicine Lake from 1941 to 1948, Ed drove Street Car in Minneapolis and then drove bus for the original Twin City Bus Company. Moving to their farm northwest of Milaca, Ed performed several employment venues in addition to farming. He delivered oil for Eggen’s, drove transport for Dahlin’s in St. Paul, drove school bus for Berglund’s and Roger Eisen. He then purchased and successfully operated a fleet of several school buses serving the Milaca district for many years.
Ed had several interests: playing the harmonica, dancing, attending auctions on a consistent basis, maintaining and entering parades with his dads 29 Chevrolet. Most of all Ed loved horses and would enter his prize percherons in parades. He took unique pleasure with Tiny his riding bull, which also was ridden in parades.
Ed peacefully passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Milaca Elim Home.
Ed is survived by son, Roger (Yvonne) of Andover; daughter Jean (Randy) of DeSoto, Illinois; four grandchildren, Scott (Ann) Grant, Taron (Erica) Grant, Greg (Victoria) Olson, Lanise (Aaron) Burchland; eleven great grandchildren: Braden, Nick, Kamri, Sawyer, Archer, Kaley, Carson, Ella, Cade, Katelynn,and Ryan.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Marian; parents John and Ellen Olson; sisters Minnie, Gladys, Mable, Lillian, and Ann.
Ed was at peace and ready for this moment.
