Funeral services for Gladys C. Braaten, age 93, of Onamia, will be held Friday, December 03, 2010 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Onamia at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kris Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Music will be provided by Kent and Mary Pat Sorvik. Casketbearers will include her grandsons, Dan Braaten, Scott Braaten, Gerald Braaten, Jr., Randy Braaten, Brian Braaten, and Marty Howard. Interment will follow at the Foster Cemetery near Cove.
Gladys Caroline Aaberg, the second of thirteen children, was born February 02, 1917 to Gilman and Clara (Berg) Aaberg at Starbuck, Minnesota. She was raised on a farm south of Starbuck located on land that is now Glacial Lake State Park. She attended country school at District #59. She was baptized and confirmed at the Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Gladys was united in marriage to Clarence Braaten on September 24, 1935. In 1950, they moved from Starbuck to Onamia. They were members of Bethany Lutheran Church since then.
Gladys loved visiting with her family, baking, gardening, and fishing. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Gladys worked eighteen years and was very devoted to her job at the Onamia Nursing Home, which is now the Mille Lacs Long Term Care Center, where she resided from 2006 until her passing on Saturday, November 27, 2010.
Gladys is survived by four sons, Adlore (Mabel) of Fridley, MN, Curtis (Hope) of Aitkin, MN, Larry (Virginia) of Milaca, MN, and Dean (Carol) of Milaca, MN; twelve grandchildren, Dan, Karen (Marty) Howard, Scott, Sandy (Bob) Strom, Gerald, Jr., Randy, Brian, Shelley (Bryan) Pearson, Alyssa (Chris) Eidson, Jerry (Kelly) Kowalsky, Jr., Lori Kowalsky, Julie (Kevin) Glanz; many great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Lillian (Arvid) Flaten of Starbuck, MN, Hilma Larson of Starbuck, MN, and Tina Hanson of Salinas, CA; one brother, Palmer (Joy) Aaberg of Starbuck, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence, on August 10, 1993, one son, Gerald, in 1998, one grandson, Dennis, in 2010, six brothers, Clarence, Arnold, Russell, Wallace, LeRoy, and Edward; two sisters, Dorine and Doris.
