Celebration service for Alyce Vanderpoel, age 88, of Princeton, formerly of Milaca, will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Princeton Elim Care and Rehab Chapel. Memorials are preferred to Gideon International. Alyce went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2018.
Alyce Mae (Hanson) Vanderpoel was born January 16, 1930, to Arthur and Mabel (Crowser) Hanson in Detroit Lakes, MN. She married Dale Gerald Vanderpoel on August 31, 1947 at her parents’ home in Detroit Lakes, MN. They were married 63 years.
The couple had two sons, Timothy and Daniel. Dale served as pastor of Mission Churches at Rochert, Vernon Center, and Mankato, MN and also Grafton, ND. In 1959 the couple moved to Minneapolis, MN. There she worked for Coast to Coast as a bookkeeper and also did sewing in her home. They moved to Princeton, MN, when they purchased the Phillip 66 service station and bulk plant. They purchased the Hi-Way Cafe in Milaca (formally known as the Sportsmen), which they owned for 15 years. She was an active member of the Princeton Evangelical Free Church, Milaca Evangelical Free Church, and Crosspoint Church in Hutchinson, MN. She and Dale were also active members in the Gideons International. Alyce loved to garden, especially flowers, sew and read her Bible. She was devoted to church ministry. Alyce was a faithful servant, who continually prayed for friends and family. She also enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren. Later in life, Alyce received her AA Degree from St. Cloud Technical College. For the past 2 ½ years, her home was at the Princeton Elim Care and Rehab Center. She loved the staff in Sunshine Circle that gave her lots of love and great care. She like to participate in the many activities which included watching the birds, playing Bingo, going to chapel, and visiting with friends. She was the Elim Home queen one summer
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Timothy (Linda) of Princeton and Daniel (Cindy) of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Melissa (Terry) Nicolas of Becker, Katie (Quentin) Schulte of Zimmerman and Lindsay Adams of Chadron, NE; one grandson, Daniel Jr. of Hutchinson; one step-granddaughter, Stephanie (Andy) Gullickson of Olivia; great granddaughters, Angelina Adams and Kenley and Kendyl Nicolas; great grandsons, Kaden Nicolas, Matthias and Thaddeus Schulte and Apollo Saari; step-great granddaughter, Celest Gullickson; step-great grandsons, Michael and Jay Goldenstein and Cole and Noah Gullickson; also by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Alyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; siblings, Hazel, Esther, Roy, Earl and Alvin.
