Funeral ceremony for David Boyd, age 53, of Onamia, will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 10 AM at the Chiminising Community Center in Isle with Lee Staples officiating. Interment will follow at Faith Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 PM on Friday at the Chiminising Community Center.
David Brian Boyd (Naawigizhik) was born March 25, 1965 to Russell and Brenda (Moose) Boyd in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Isle and attended school in Isle until the 10th grade. He then moved to Anchorage, AK and graduated from West Anchorage High School in 1983. At the time, it was the largest graduating class in Alaska history. David moved back to Minnesota and attended St. Cloud AVTI and earned a degree in auto mechanics. In 1991 he started working at Grand Casino Mille Lacs as a black jack dealer and worked his way up to the position of Table Games Manager. David later became the Bingo Director at the casino. He later worked in bingo and pull tabs at the casino. In October of 2017, David became the main receptionist at the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Government Center. He enjoyed spending time with his girls, hunting, and going to Moon Dance Jam every year.
He walked into the spirit world on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at St. Cloud Hospital.
He is survived by significant other of 24 years, Deanna Weous of Onamia ; children, Toni Marie Weous and Teri Alex Boyd of Onamia; sisters, Dawn Boyd Chosa of Isle and Lynnette Boyd of Pelican Rapids; father, Russell (Janice) Boyd of Onamia; brother, Robert Moose of Isle; special sister, Tonia Turner of Arizona; aunts and uncles, Helena Moose Graikowski of Onamia, Darlene Sam of Minneapolis, Carol Mojica of Onamia, Alvin “Sonny” Boyd of Forest Lake, Donivon Boyd of St. Cloud; cousins, Corwin Graikowski (Ruth Sam) of Onamia, Jay (Maki) Graikowski of Sunrise, FL, Gilda (Tracy) Burr of Onamia, Emma Gagnon of Westin, WI and Jenny Moose Buchholz of Brainerd; also by his many friends from Geno’s Bar, Moon Dance Jam and Grand Casino Mille Lacs.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda; grandparents, Alex and Annie Moose and Charles and Sadie Boyd.
