Mass of Christian Burial for Donald DeShaw, age 84, of Milaca, will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca with Fr. Jim Remmerswaal, OSC officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 PM Wednesday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca with a Knights of Columbus Rosary service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Donald John “Double D” DeShaw was born December 8, 1934 to Perry and Regina (Murray) DeShaw in Hopkinton, Iowa. Don attended Buck Creek School, where he played basketball. He went on to serve in the US Army for two years. Don met Margaret Steger and they were married on April 20, 1966 in Edgewood, Iowa. They made their home in Petersburg, Iowa and then moved to Ryan, Iowa, where they started their family. They moved to Milaca, Minnesota in 1982.
Don enjoyed sports, the St. Louis Cardinals and spending time with his family. He was very proud of his grandchildren. Don will be remembered by his family and friends for his strong faith, contagious smile and his gift of gab.
Don passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Milaca Elim Home.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret; daughters, Nancy (Lonnie) Hoffbeck of Blaine and Sherry (Douglas) DeBoer of Blaine; grandchildren, Tanna Hoffbeck, Lydia DeBoer, Charlie DeBoer and Taylor DeShaw; daughter-in-law, Cathy DeShaw; sisters, Marlene Chapman of Hopkinton, Iowa and Jean (Ron) Wolfe of Worthington, Iowa; brother, Tom (Donna) DeShaw of Ryan, Iowa; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry and his parents, Perry and Regina.
