Donald Mueller

Donald H. Mueller, age 89, of Milaca passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children at Fairview Northland Hospital in Princeton, on March 20, 2025. Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church in Foreston. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Louis Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born May 16, 1935 in St. Cloud Minnesota to Hubert and Emma (Krueger) Mueller; he was an only child. He attended Catholic school, graduating from Cathedral High School in 1953. During this time, he was an altar server at St Mary’s Cathedral. Following graduation, Don served in the US Navy for 4 years, serving 2 years in Japan as the officer in charge of the base post office. In 1961, Don married Carol Otten at the St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church in Foreston. He gained not only a wife, but 12 siblings. Don and Carol lived in St. Cloud where they had 4 of their 6 children, moving to Foreston in 1967. In the fall of 2023, they moved into a townhome in Milaca.

Don spent his primary career with the post office for 42 years, 18 years as postmaster in Foreston, retiring in 1999. During this time, he also worked as a custodian of St. Louis Bertrand for 41 years and treasurer of Milo Township for 42 years. In his younger days, he played softball, often umpiring during leagues and tournaments. He loved anything to do with golf: playing golf, looking for golf balls, repairing golf clubs. He loved to fish and enjoyed many trips up to Canada. He loved reading Louis L’Amour books and Wednesday nights at Rollies with the boys.

Don is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Tim (Lanette), Pam, Deb (Rick), Amy (Bill), Lisa (Kevin), Bill (Lisa); 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and the many family and friends who loved him dearly. Don is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Cody.
