Funeral services for Esther Ruis will be held Monday, October 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Pease Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Michael Ten Haken officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Pease Christian Reformed Church and also one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Pease Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
Esther Ruis was born June 15, 1928 in Bogus Brook Township and passed into eternal life on October 14, 2019 at the age of 91 years. She attended school in Pease and was a life-long member of the Pease Christian Reformed Church. On October 25, 1946, she married Lester Ruis and together they had three daughters and one son. She resided in the Pease and Milaca area her entire life.
Esther was an avid seamstress and created beautiful quilts and hand embroidered gifts. Like many women of her generation, she chose to be a homemaker and was a wonderful cook and baker, which she shared with family and friends.
Esther and Les shared a love for the Southwest and spent winters in Arizona for nearly 30 years until they moved to Country Meadows in 2016 due to her failing health. She loved to play cards and continued to play regularly until her final days. She was on the Pease women’s fast-pitch softball team for many years.
Esther is survived by Les, her husband of 73 years, four children, Nancy (Ken) Klein of Palm City, Florida, Phyllis (Ron) VanDonselaar of Aurora, Colorado, Deb Kielty of Chaska, and Dan (Nancy) Ruis of Milaca; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, son-in-law, Jim Kielty, and many life-long family and friends.
