Memorial services for Esther Leona Sandeen, age 93, of Milaca, will be held Friday, October 26, 2018 at 2 PM at the Milaca United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Esther was born on December 3, 1924 to Fred and Emma Dannenbrock in Nowlin, South Dakota. She grew up in South Dakota and graduated from Philip High School in 1943. During World War II she performed clerical work at an Air Force base in Utah. In 1946, Esther met and married Oliver King, and they moved to Milaca, Minnesota. Four years later, their daughter June was born. Ollie passed away in 1960. In 1963, Esther met and married Paul Sandeen.
Esther worked for 27 years as a bookkeeper for the Milles County Highway Department and was a volunteer Fire Warden for the state of Minnesota for 34 years. She was involved in many activities; she initiated the Busy Beavers 4-H club, was member of the Bock Garden Club, the local Saddle club, and many others. Esther also cashiered the Milaca Methodist Church Cookie walk through her 90thBirthday. She loved horses and horseback riding. She loved animals in general, raising dachshunds until 1960, and in her later years seemed to gather every stray cat in the area. She passed away on October 19, 2018 at Cherrywood Memory Care in Roseville, Minnesota.
She is survived by her loving daughter, June (Frank) Skog; grandchildren, Amanda Skog and Iver (Erica) Skog and great-grandson, Robert “Bobby” Skog. She is also survived by all of Paul Sandeen’s nieces and nephews who loved her very much. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Oliver King and Paul Sandeen, her parents, her five sisters and one brother.
