Eunice Lillian Olness was born April 24, 1923 to David and Bertha (Nelson) Arvidson in Milaca, Minnesota. She was one of nine children and grew up in Page Township. She married Louis “Buck” Olness on May 3, 1941 and they lived most of their life together on a farm north of Milaca. They were blessed with three children, Janice, Joan and James. In 1976, Eunice and Buck were in a car train accident where Buck and their grandson, Daniel were killed. Eunice was badly injured, but being the strong woman that she was she survived the accident along with her granddaughter, Kristi.
Eunice would learn to drive a car when her son, Jim, was a senior in high school. They stayed on the farm for a year before moving to the Milaca Mobile Court where she lived until she was 90 years old. Eunice then moved to Milaca Elim Home because of back problems.
Her children were a big help to Eunice. Being the oldest, Eunice referred to Janice as her boss. Janice helped her with her bills and with any problems that she had. Janice passed away in June 2018 and the family would like to remember her at this time.
Eunice was a unique and amazing woman who was loved and will be missed by many. She passed away June 15, 2020 at the Milaca Elim Home.
Eunice is survived by her children, Joan (Gary) Becklin of Stanchfield and James (Brenda) Olness of Mahtowa, who loved her dearly and who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by sisters, Donna Smith of Montana and Johnon Mace of Idaho. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Hastings; husband, Louis “Buck” Olness; grandson, Daniel Becklin.
A private memorial service will be held for Eunice followed by interment at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.
