Funeral services for Grayce Hewitt, age 89, of Milaca, will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow at Pease Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Milaca Elim Care and Rehab Center. Grayce Elaine Pluimer Hewitt (nicknamed "Awkie") died on December 4th at the age of 89. She passed away at the Elim Home in Milaca where she had been a resident since 2010. Grayce was born on February 16, 1928 to Lammie (Van Dalen) and Nick Pluimer of Pease. She was the youngest of three children, with Harold and Don being her older brothers. She graduated from Milaca High School in 1947. Grayce married Cecil Hewitt on December 29, 1948 in Miami, Florida. They were a military family and called several places home -- Florida, Delaware and Minnesota. Grayce was very creative and artistic. She loved to paint and did landscapes and still life paintings in oil. She also "colored" black and white photos for her brother, Don, of Don's Studio in Milaca for years before color film was available. She did all the graduation, wedding and portrait pictures for years. She was a talented floral arranger for several florists in the area and in Florida. She also is credited for naming the Milaca High School year book "Treasured Echos" and the local bowling alley "Lakeway Lanes." Grayce is survived by three children, Curt (Ana) Hewitt of Milaca, Paula (Alan) Fleischauer of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Shawn (Cheryl) Hewitt of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Brett Nyman of Maplewood, Minnesota, Alyssa (Jon) Nyman of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Rachel and Ashley Hewitt of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Alice Pluimer, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cecil in 2010, her parents and brothers, Harold Pluimer and Don Pluimer and sister-in-law, Tillie Pluimer.
