Memorial service for Howard Sorensen, age 88, of Milaca, will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11 AM at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday. Howard L. Sorensen was born August 20, 1928 to Peter and Anna (Norrgard) Sorensen at home in Bogus Brook Township. He went to Woodward Brook country school to the 8th grade. Howard worked hauling gravel from 1946 to 1948. In 1948, he and his father bought and ran a gas station in Bock together for about a year. He was united in marriage to Muriel Roelofs on July 2, 1954 at the Pease Christian Reformed Church. Howard and Muriel were blessed with six children. After the death of his parents in 1955, he took over the family farm and continued to work on the farm until November 2016, when his health no longer allowed him to continue. Howard worked as a veterinarian’s assistant at the Mille Lacs Vet Clinic from 1962 to 1965. From 1964 to 1967, he also worked part time as an electrician’s assistant. In November 1967, he went to work at Federal Cartridge as a guard until he retired from there in August 1988. Howard had a love for animals and enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He enjoyed working on his farm and spending time with his family and loved ones. In his later years, he enjoyed going on nature drives with his wife and watching the wildlife from the kitchen windows that over look the river and feeding and watching the birds. He passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Milaca Elim Home. He is survived by children, Leslie Sorensen, Ann Weikert, Peter (Barb) Sorensen, James Sorensen, Jean (Denny) Robinson and Karen (Dennis) Cordes; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; also by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents in 1955; wife, Muriel in June 2014 and sister, Elaine in December 2008.
