John Arthur Benson

Funeral services for John Arthur Benson, age 82, of Aitkin, will be held Friday, January 04, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home.   Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Friday. Interment with military honors will follow at the Borgholm Cemetery near Bock.

John Arthur Benson was born August 11, 1936 to Oscar and Helen (Johnson) Benson.  He grew up on their family farm in Milaca.  He graduated from Milaca High School in 1954. John enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 41^stEngineers from 1955-1958.  He was stationed in Kitzigen, Germany.  He was united in married to Darlene Nelson on February 09, 1957 in Saint Cloud.  They moved to Osseo where they lovingly raised their three children.  John was a steel fabricator for 45 years; he retired from Designer Iron, Inc. and then resided in Aitkin for the next 19 years.

John was a very gifted man who could design, build, and fix almost anything.  He was a hard-working man always doing his best on every project or task.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years.  He was an avid BBQ’er and cook.  He enjoyed cocktails on the deck taking in the peace and quiet of living up north.  He was a man on integrity, strong conviction, perseverance, faith and honor.  He was always there for his family, providing unending time, patience, knowledge, wisdom, and love.  A man they are proud to have as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

John passed away January 01, 2019 in Aitkin.

He is survived by his two sons, Richard (Kris) Benson of Otsego and their daughter, Claire; Timothy Benson and Patsy Asmus of Isle and his daughter, Amanda, her children, Ella and Emme and son Michael; daughter, Kimberly (David) Bruen of Maple Grove and their son, Daniel (Melody), daughter, Scarlett and son, Chase.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Darlene.
