Kathryn Timmer, age 93, of Milaca, died September 17, 2017. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Pastor Michael Ten Haken officiating. Interment will follow at Pease Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Kathryn Timmer was born August 25, 1924, the 8th child of Jerry and Maggie (Kuperus) Timmer. She attended Riverside Country School from 1st through 6th grade. When Riverside closed, Kathryn went to the Christian School in Pease for 7th and 8th grade. She graduated from Milaca High School in 1942. The custom at that time was for Pease girls to go to Grand Rapids, MI to work, so Kathryn went there also. She often said it was a fun and good time of her life. Five or six girls shared an apartment, but this broke up when one of the girls got married and another one decided to go back to school. The other girls all came back home, but Kathryn worked in Minneapolis for a short time. Kathryn did return home and worked at Milaca Mills for over forty years. She married Melvin Mattson in October of 2000. After about a year, Matt was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Kathryn took care of him at home as long as she could, but he eventually had to go to Milaca Elim Home where he died on October 23, 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Matt; brothers, Fred (Jeanette), John (Jennie), Frank (Adeline), Wally (Lois) and Lawrence; sisters, Marie (Leo) Gannon, Julia (Bill) Koning and Nina. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sylvia and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
