Marlene Rosella Hines

Marlene Hines, age 87, of Milaca, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019.  A memorial mass will be held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milaca with Fr. Jim Remmerswaal, OSC officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

 Marlene Rosella Hines, 87, of Milaca, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019. She was born on the family farm in Rogers, MN, to Andrew and Mary (Weber) Dehn.  Marlene graduated from Elk River High School in 1949.  On February 20, 1950, Bob and Marlene were married in Rogers and lived in a small house outside of Milaca.  Several years later, they moved to a farm five miles south of Bock, first into an older farmhouse and later into a home they had built.  They lived there until moving into Country Meadows in 2015.

The family rapidly expanded to ten.  Despite being a busy housewife, mother, and homemaker, she was active in the St. Mary’s Guild, Mother’s Club, and co-founded the Oak Grove 4-H Club. Along with Bob, Marlene was one of the charter members of St. Mary’s Parish.  She and Bob hosted several foreign exchange students from Japan and enjoyed traveling.  In addition to card playing, Marlene was an avid quilter.  She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, puzzles and word finds. 

Marlene is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bob Hines;  six children, Patricia Hines (Harold Hartley) of Enterprise, OR, Robert Hines (Carla) of Willmar, Joanne Wojciechowski (Tom) of Foreston, Paul Hines of Columbia Heights, Eileen Wojciechowski (Craig) of Foley, and Janet Norman (Terry) of Princeton;  20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents;  her siblings, Lucille, Irvin, LeRoy, Angela and Lowell and two children, Mark Hines and Karen Mason.  She will be forever remembered by family and friends for her sharp mind, quick smile, homemaking skills, and competitiveness in cards.
