Virginia May Olson

Funeral services for Virginia Olson, age 90, of Milaca, will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 11 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock.  Interment will follow at Becker Community Cemetery in Becker.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Virginia May Olson was born January 17, 1928 to Edward and Bertha (Arndt) Hoffman in Fairhaven, MN. She was the youngest of thirteen children with five of her siblings passing away very young.

She was united in marriage to Gilbert Herges on December 12, 1944.  To this union were born four children: Gerald, Linda, Darrell, and Randy. After Gilbert’s discharge from the Army, they moved to a farm near Becker, MN.  Gilbert died in a farm accident on July 21, 1955.

Virginia married Jewell Olson on August 4, 1960.  Jewell was a widower with two children:  Linda and Richard.  To this union was born a daughter, Janelle. They made their home in the Ogilvie area on a small hobby farm.  After retirement, they built their dream home on top of the hill near Milaca.  Virginia took great pride in her beautiful flowers and loved visits from family and neighbors.  Jewell passed away February 24, 2007.

After Jewell’s death, Virginia moved into a townhome in Milaca for 8 years.  She then spent 2.5 years in assisted living at St. Claire in Mora. Virginia moved to Milaca Elim Home upon getting sick in January 2018.  She was surrounded by her family during her last months. 

Virginia was a child of God, loved her family, music, flowers, gardening, and birds.  She loved spending time with her large family. 

Virginia went home to be with the Lord on April 22, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her siblings, Marie, Emil, Laura, Luella, Clarence, and Alvin, and grandson, Ryan. 

Virginia is survived by her sister, Arlene Schuldt, her children, Gerald (Barget) Herges, Linda (Terry) Hopp, Darrell (Geraldine) Herges, Randy (Betty) Herges, Janelle (Kevin) Troupe, Linda (Steven) Parrish, Richard (Marilyn) Olson, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.
