Wesley Garret Geurkink passed away peacefully at home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 5, 2024. Wesley was born in Princeton, Minnesota on November 1, 1934, to John Abraham (Abe) Geurkink and Ruth Sylvia (Johnson) Geurkink. Wesley grew up and lived in Pease, Minnesota for the first 20 years of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, younger brother Wayne Geurkink, and his first wife, Betty (Kiel) Geurkink. Wes and Betty were married 38 years and were blessed with four children, Tammy (JC) Huizenga, Tom (Tammy) Geurkink, Jon Geurkink, and David (Jennifer) Geurkink. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren, Cassandra and Katrina, Gerrit and Landon, Drew and Alexandra, Gavin and Caroline. He has seven great grandchildren, Finley, Jayce and Payton, Elijah and Genevieve, Kennedy and Leighton.
Wesley was blessed with a loving second wife, Sandi Sauer Geurkink and he loved her children and grandchildren also: Mary and Nate Meyer, Chip and Alisa Sauer, Emma, Cade, Jack, John, and Anna.
Wesley said his greatest joy in life were all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. And they all adored him.
Wesley attended Calvin College for one year, joined the Army for two years, then graduated from St. Cloud College with a bachelor’s degree. He went to work for Princeton State Bank and stayed there for almost 40 years. He began his career as a bank teller and eventually was promoted to president. He was loved and respected by the entire community. After retiring from Princeton State Bank, he worked for Mitch Kuperus Trucking and Da-Ran Trucking. He loved every minute of driving truck.
Wes attended the Christian Reformed Church of Pease Minnesota and was a treasurer. He was also treasurer of Pease Christian School. He was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Princeton, Minnesota and served many years as Elder and Deacon. He was also a charter member of the Princeton Economic Development Association and served on its board for many years. He also was on the board of the Princeton Hospital where he helped to manage the transition to join a larger hospital system.
Wes and Sandi moved to West Michigan approximately 10 years ago. He was active with his family activities while working at the Born Clinic until a few months ago. Wes’ loving and playful personality will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Wes will be buried at Pease Cemetery, Pease, Minnesota. A celebration of his life will take place on October 17 with visitation at 4:30 p.m. and a memorial service at 5:30p.m. at Cascade Fellowship CRC in Grand Rapids, Michigan. TO LIVESTREAM THE SERVICE CLICK HERE
