Wesley Raymond Johnson

Funeral services for Wesley R. Johnson, age 75, of Milaca, will be held Monday, June 11, 2018 at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Stephen Blenkush officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.  Interment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Minot, ND on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion Camperships.

Wesley R. Johnson was born January 8, 1943 in Stanley, ND to Johnny and Irene (Eliason) Johnson.  Wes graduated from Stanley High School in 1961. He attended college at the University of North Dakota.  He joined the US Navy in May 1962 and was discharged in May 1965.  Wes enjoyed a long career with the FAA as an air traffic controller.

While rehearsing with the Mouse River Players in Minot, he met Carol.  They were married on June 22, 1991 in Minot, ND and they moved to Milaca. After Wes retired he served as an escort with Carol on bus trips all over the country.  Wes was an avid golfer and loved to fish.  Wes loved his five grandchildren and talked about them often. He was involved in many activities in Milaca, including co-chairing golf tournaments and participating in the Honor Guard.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca.  He passed away at his home from cancer, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 6, 2018.

Wes is survived by his step-son, Greg (Maureen) Shirley of Saint Cloud and step-daughter, Gayle Wentling of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren, Kristi (Jacques) Delange, Jeanna (Michael) Dwyer, Stacie Wentling, Sarah (Ryan) Widuch, and Mark Shirley; brothers, Darold (Ardella) Johnson of Cavalier, ND and Myron Johnson of Stanley, ND, sister, Jean (Joe) Reed of Spearfish, SD;  sisters-in-law, Mary Johnson of Bismarck, ND and Grace Johnson of Stanley, ND; many nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Curtis, and the love of his life, Carol.
